“I’ve always been a water kid,” says Luna Moon’s Owner and CEO, Misty Marcum. “If there was a pool or lake or ocean, you couldn’t get me out of it. So when I went to Hawaii sometime around 2004 and saw people paddle boarding, I thought – Wow! That looks really cool.”

Much later in life, I found myself dreaming at my corporate desk job. Some days my nine to five became a breeding ground for researching; yoga, surfing and paddleboarding. I had taken some SUP yoga classes and loved the experience. My obsession about paddle boarding and doing yoga on a board became my new passion. From water to land, my journey began as a teacher, leader and entrepreneur.

Merging my yoga practice with the love of water, Luna Moon has created the opportunity to introduce people to SUP and SUP yoga. I love watching others grow in their practice within the community. In 2017 Luna Moon was created with the vision to create a ground for others to connect, explore and experience on a board.

We partner with organizations such as Great Lakes Great Responsibility in effort to keep the Great Lakes clean. Sylvan Lake is part of the Great Lakes water basin. Every piece of litter counts toward the 1 million challenge.

During my 4th and 5th seasons exploring Sylvan Lake on my stand-up paddleboard as Luna Moon SUP, lake cleanups evolved from a routine task to a heartfelt passion project. As I ventured out, I couldn't help but notice the impact of litter on the pristine beauty of the lake. Motivated to make a difference, I began meticulously documenting my clean-up efforts, discovering both the extent of the issue and the positive changes with each visit. Sharing these experiences became a way to raise awareness and inspire others to join in preserving the natural splendor of Sylvan Lake.

It started with a paddle brought home from California. No paddle board at the time, instead used a windsurfer board to paddle all around Sylvan Lake. Now I have been paddling for about 10 years.
